  • POSTCARD ACTIVITY
  • Object:  Design a postcard of a place they might be able or would like to visit. 
  • Students are divided among groups of three. 
  • Students are given web sites for the place they would visit, selecting one site. 
  • Guidelines:  Message of the visit; five facts they learned about the place from the site; extra points for the message in a foreign language of the place; and a special, designed stamp. 
  • This is even better if the children can be taken there for an actual visit, for example, a museum.  There are pages for other states as well as Texas.

    VIRTUAL TRIP
  • Have the students plan a trip to a foreign country.
  • They should identify hotels, dining, attractions, language, currency, weather, tranportation, etc.

    NATIONAL PARK PROJECT
  • Objective:  Students gain information about a National Park, with the goal of suggesting improvement ideas to the U.S. Park Service.
  • Have them work in teams.

    HOLOCAUST ACTIVITIES
  • Objective:  To become familar with the crimes against mankind.
  • Give each student a 3x5 card with the family name of a family that perished in the Holocaust.
  • Students use the card to record information about the family and then give reports to the class.

    NORTH POLE EXPEDITION
    FREE ASPIRATIONS EXPEDITION NORTH POLE: The team, led by Minnesotan Paul Schurke, will be on the ice in less than 10 days - fighting  40 below zero F temperatures, hopping leads (open channels of sea water cold enough to induce hypothermia in 90 seconds), feasting on dehydrated cardboard, and mushing and skiing and running and staggering towards the pole. Preliminary North Pole materials became online April 15th.

    KIDLINK CONFERENCING NETWORK
    The Kidcafe lists 
  • Are for open email dialog including both individual exchanges (keypals) and group discussion or inquiry on topics introduced by the kids. The number of Kidcafes, and rules for participation differs by language area. 

  • The Kidproj lists 
  • A group of mailing list conferences supporting a wide variety of short and long-term projects across language areas.

  • Projects may grow so large that they are given special conference areas for the discussions. Currently, there are KIDPROJ conferences in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. 
    The Kidforum lists
    A group of mailing lists for discussion of one topic at a time with about two months per topic. The adult moderator for each topic works closely with the participating students and their teachers.

    RAINFOREST COLORING BOOK
    Check out this neat Cyber coloring Book
    It contains ABC animals from the rainforest and the narrative was written by 2nd grade students. If you know about "document source" you can use it as a template to create your own coloring book pages for your class!The drawings were scanned.

    EARTH DAY GROCERIES PROJECT
    The sixth annual Earth Day Groceries Project is closeD.  Over 1,000 schools reported participation.  Over fifty schools sent in pictures to the website.  Over 325,000 beautiful, hand decorated Earth Day Grocery Bags went home with shoppers on Earth Day... and more data is being added.  Stop by their website and take a look.  All the reports are there, as well as plenty of pictures of kids proudly showing off their artwork.   Make plans for the seventh annual Earth Day Groceries Project in 2000.
